Hardened Armored Touch Screen Technology
AbraxSys' Hardened Armored Touch Screen technology is a glass armored resistive technology and is an excellent
alternative to standard resistive when durability is an issue. This ruggedized touch screen is a proven technology
deployed in thousands of applications worldwide.
A micro-thin sheet of borosilicate glass is laminated to the ITO polyester top sheet used in the
typical construction of resistive touch sensors. This process produces a flexible glass membrane which is scratch
resistant, water proof and impervious to chemicals, fire and stylus use. The resulting touch sensor is ideally
suited to Military, Industrial, Mobile, Public Kiosk and Medical applications. Configurations are available for 4,
5, and 8 wire sensors from 5″ to 24.0″.
• Abrasion and scratch resistant;
• Water proof and impervious to flames, chemicals, solvents etc.;
• Maintains all typical benefits of resistive technology;
• Expanded operating environmental window. Can operate where no other technology can;
• Lasts longer due to the stiffer glass/polyester top layer which reduces ITO fracturing failures
including
damage from stylus use;
• Reduced pillowing possibility of the top layer as glass/polyester lamination has a closer
expansion/contraction
coefficient to the substrate glass;
• The glass/polyester top layer does not shatter and allows the sensor to continue to operate even after
extreme abuse such as deep scoring, repeated impact trauma and other vandalism;
• If the substrate breaks, the broken glass shards are safely held behind the glass/polyester top layer
which
will remain intact.
With such a durable outer layer, AbraxSys' Hardened Armored Touch Screen technology lends itself
to implementations that will be exposed to extreme abuse. Applications such as the battlefield, public kiosks
that are prone to vandalism, systems deployed into heavy engineering or mining environments, general
ruggedized equipment, etc. To meet the demands of these kinds of applications AbraxSys has developed with its
touch partner a process to laminate various backplane substrates to the Hardened Armored Touch Screen
sensors:
• 3mm thick true safety laminated pure glass fronted
construction optically bonded overlay with Anti-Reflective
Field
• Thermally Strengthened Glass Substrate with UV Protection
• Antireflective treatment with specially formulated ultra
hydrophobic topcoat to eliminate “smudging”, for better water repellence as well as resistance
to dirt, oil,
watermarks, and other environmental influences
• High Accuracy
• Image Stability - Not susceptible to problems caused by high-level short-term variances and axis
linearity
and drift
• Contamination-resistant. Top sheet hermetically sealed with pressure sensitive adhesive with a 30 year
rating. Unaffected by harsh cleaning fluids and other noxious substances
• External environments – unaffected by dirt, moisture and rain
• AR <= 0.5% Photopic Reflection, a vacuum deposited antireflective optical coating that is applied to
the
outer surface of the sensor armor glass. It has a relatively high temperature process so the coating
is very
durable and is designed to meet industry standards such as SAE AMS-2521 and MIL-C-675.
• Scratch resistant hi-res anti-glare hard coat with 4h hardness
• Activation with finger, stylus, gloved hand or any other pressure activation
